Hair Workshop with Gordon Nelson at Visions Salon
This week I attended a scissor/razor workshop at Visions Salon in Wellington Florida and even after 40 years of doing hair I am still amazed at every workshop I attend. There is always one investment that will never let you down and that is the investment in self. Not only was I receptive to the hair cutting techniques shown at the workshop, but I also walked away with the reminder of how important it is to be humble in any industry. There will be times when you are asked to teach and there will be times to be the student and you should allow yourself to experience both.
I had the pleasure of meeting the hair artistry icon Gordon Nelson, who has influenced decades of hair stylists around the world. Gordon has achieved sincere success and his career path is one of passion and devotion. He began his hair-cutting journey as an apprentice with Vidal Sassoon, the Pablo Picasso of haircutting. From there he went on to become a partner and creative director at Joshua Galvin, one of London’s most distinguished haircutting schools and traveled throughout Europe, training stylists on cutting edge techniques and trends in hair fashion. When Gordon came to the U.S. in 1977 he joined Regis Corporation as an artistic director, where he established the artistic team and technical program. Gordon has worked with top names in the business and his work has been regularly featured in many fashion publications such as Vogue, Elle, and Harper’s Bazaar. He is still with Regis today and is passionate as ever as the leading authority in hair fashion.
As a hair professional, I have the utmost respect for Gordon and truly admire his unique approach to cutting hair and his passion and dedication to the hair fashion industry. My favorite lesson from the day is summed up in his quote:
““You have the saying Practice makes perfect. No! Practice makes you better; you are never perfect!”
I would like to thank Gordon Nelson and the team at Visions Salon for their excellent educational experience.
